Napbell

Napbell: support

Questions or a problem with Napbell? Email napbell@jhilmillabs.com. It helps to say which phones you use (for example "Samsung as Parent, Redmi as Baby"), which mode (Cry only, Audio or Video) and what you see on each screen.

Setting up

What do I need? Two Android phones (Android 8 or newer) on the same Wi-Fi network. A hotspot from a third device works too. If one of the two phones is itself the hotspot, cry alerts, audio and talk work, but video may not connect yet. Choose Baby on the phone near your baby and Parent on your phone, then scan the QR code shown on the Baby phone.

The phones can't find each other. Check both phones are on the same Wi-Fi, not one on mobile data. Guest Wi-Fi and some public networks stop phones from seeing each other; use your main home network. If the router restarted or gave the Baby phone a new address, scan the QR code again.

Does it work when I'm away from home? Not yet. Both phones must be on the same network.

Does the Baby phone need to stay plugged in? We recommend it for a whole night, especially in Video mode.

Alerts

My phone didn't ring. On the Parent phone, open Settings and use Test sound and vibration. Then check:

  • Notifications for Napbell are allowed.
  • Full-screen alerts are allowed (Android 14 and newer ask for this separately; the app's Phone readiness list links to it).
  • Battery optimisation is off for Napbell, so Android does not stop it at night.
  • Do Not Disturb lets Napbell alarms through.
  • On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, also turn on Autostart for Napbell and set its battery saver to "No restrictions".

It alerts too often, or not often enough. Open Sensitivity & alerts and choose Sensitive, Balanced or Fewer alerts. You can also tell the app when an alert was wrong or a cry was missed; it adjusts gently on that phone.

How quickly does it alert? After a few seconds of steady crying, not at every small sound.

The Wi-Fi dropped. What happens? If the Parent phone loses the Baby phone, it sounds an alarm so you know you are no longer monitoring. The phones reconnect on their own when both are back on the network.

Audio and video

I can't see the video. Video needs Video mode and camera permission on the Baby phone. Check the Baby phone's screen for a camera message.

The room sounds quiet. Use Room audio boost in Live audio on the Parent phone.

Is anything recorded? No. Audio and video go straight between your two phones and are not saved.

Purchases

What is free? Live audio and video monitoring are free, with ads. Cry alerts are free for 15 days. After that, a one-time package keeps cry alerts and removes ads, for both paired phones. A night already in progress is never interrupted.

I reinstalled or changed phones. Open Napbell while signed in to the same Google account you bought with; it restores your purchase on its own (or tap Restore purchase in Packages). The paired phone gets the unlock from the phone that bought it when they connect.

Refunds. Purchases go through Google Play. Request a refund from Google Play's order history, or email us.

Removing Napbell

Uninstall the app on both phones. This deletes saved phones, settings and trial information. Nothing is stored anywhere else.
