Baby monitor without internet
Napbell is a baby monitor that works without internet. The phone by the crib and the phone in your pocket connect directly over your home Wi-Fi, encrypted, with no cloud server in between. Video, sound, talk back and cry alerts all stay inside your home network. You need Wi-Fi so the phones can reach each other, but not an internet connection.

No internet is not the same as no Wi-Fi
Search results mix these up. Napbell needs both phones on the same Wi-Fi network, because that is how they reach each other. It does not need that Wi-Fi to be connected to the internet: if your broadband goes down at night, monitoring keeps working. What Napbell does not do is send your baby's video to a company's servers, which is what most app-based and cloud Wi-Fi cameras do.
Why avoid cloud baby cameras
A cloud camera uploads the picture so an app can show it anywhere. That convenience means your baby's room passes through someone else's computers, needs an account, and often a subscription. With Napbell there is no account to break into and nothing stored to leak, because nothing leaves your network. The trade-off is honest: you can watch only while you are at home, on the same network.
How the phones find each other
- Put a spare phone near the crib. Install Napbell on an old Android phone (Android 8 or newer), open it and choose Baby. Keep it plugged in and point the camera at the crib from a shelf or stand.
- Open Napbell on your phone. On the phone you carry, choose Parent and scan the QR code shown on the baby phone. Both phones must be on the same home Wi-Fi.
After the first pairing, the baby phone announces itself on your Wi-Fi so the parent phone can find it again. If the router restarts and the connection drops, your phone warns you instead of staying silent. Setup details for two phones are on baby monitor app for two phones.

Questions
Does a baby monitor app need internet?
Napbell does not. The baby phone and the parent phone connect directly over your home Wi-Fi. Your router does not need an internet connection for monitoring to work.
Does it work without Wi-Fi?
No. Both phones must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Napbell needs Wi-Fi, but not the internet.
What uses the internet, then?
Only the ads in the free version and Google Play purchases. Monitoring, video, audio and cry alerts never go over the internet.
What happens if the Wi-Fi drops?
The parent phone sounds an alarm when it loses the baby phone, so you know you are no longer monitoring. The phones reconnect on their own when both are back on the network.
Is anything uploaded or recorded?
No. There is no Napbell server or account. Video and sound go straight between your two phones and are not saved.
Can I watch when I am away from home?
Not yet. Both phones must be on the same network, so it is a monitor for inside your home.
