Napbell

Napbell: privacy policy

Last updated: 8 November 2026

The short version

Napbell works between your own two phones on your home Wi-Fi. There is no Napbell account and no Napbell server. We never receive your audio, video or cry alerts, and nothing is recorded. The free version shows Google ads, and Google's ad software collects some device information, as described below.

What Napbell does

You put one phone near your baby (the Baby phone) and keep the other with you (the Parent phone). The Baby phone listens for crying with a sound model that runs on the phone itself. When it hears crying, it alerts the Parent phone. If you choose, it also sends live audio, or live audio and video, to the Parent phone. Both phones must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Microphone and camera

  • The Baby phone uses the microphone, and the camera in Video mode, only while monitoring is on. Android shows a notification the whole time.
  • Crying is detected on the Baby phone. The sound is analysed in memory, a few seconds at a time, and then discarded.
  • No audio, video or photos are recorded or saved on either phone, and none are sent to us or anyone else.
  • When you hold the talk button on the Parent phone, its microphone is used only while you hold it. Your voice plays on the Baby phone and is not saved.

What travels between your two phones

  • You pair the phones by scanning a QR code on the Baby phone. It contains the Baby phone's address on your Wi-Fi and a secret pairing key.
  • The connection between the phones is encrypted and locked to the phone you paired. It goes straight between them, with no server in between, so we cannot see it.
  • The phones exchange: cry alerts and their time; live audio and video when you turn them on; your voice when you hold to talk; settings such as sensitivity, mode and camera controls; status such as battery level, charging and connection or microphone problems; the phones' names; and whether a package was bought, so one purchase covers both phones.
  • So that a saved Parent phone can find it again, the Baby phone announces itself on your Wi-Fi network with its phone name. Other devices on the same network can see that name.
  • Monitoring works only on your local network. Napbell does not send monitoring data over the internet.

What is stored on your phone

  • Saved paired phones: their names and pairing keys.
  • Your settings, and the number of times you told the app an alert was wrong or missed (used only to adjust sensitivity on that phone).
  • The start date of the free cry-alert trial and whether you bought a package.

This stays on the phone. It is excluded from Android's cloud backup. You can forget a saved phone in the app, and uninstalling Napbell or clearing its data deletes all of it.

Ads

The free version shows Google AdMob ads on some screens. Ads are not shown during an alarm or a warning. Google's ad software (the Google Mobile Ads SDK) collects and shares information to show and measure ads, for analytics and to prevent fraud. This includes your IP address (which gives an approximate location), your advertising ID and other device identifiers, how you interact with ads, and diagnostic information. Google may use your advertising ID to show personalised ads.

You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings (usually under Privacy or Google, then Ads). Learn how Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Buying a package removes ads.

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Napbell asks for your consent before Google shows personalised ads, using Google's consent message. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy choices.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we never see your card or payment details. The app checks your purchase with Google Play on your phone. Google Play's own terms and privacy policy apply to the purchase.

Internet use

Napbell uses the internet only to load ads and to work with Google Play for purchases.

This website and the launch list

If you leave your email on napbell.jhilmillabs.com to hear when Napbell is on Google Play, we store that email address, the page you used and your country (from your connection), in a database run by Cloudflare for Jhilmil Labs. We use it only to send you one email when Napbell launches. We never sell or share it. To be removed, email us and we delete it.

The website counts visits with a first-party counter: page path, referring site, country, device and browser type. It sets no cookies, stores no raw IP addresses, and does not count visits from browsers that send Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Children

Napbell is for parents and caregivers. It is not directed at children. It picks up the sound, and in Video mode the picture, of your baby's room, but only between your own phones as described above. We never receive it.

Your choices

  • Stop monitoring at any time from either phone.
  • Use Cry only or Audio mode if you do not want the camera on. You can refuse camera permission and still use audio monitoring.
  • Uninstall the app or clear its data to delete everything it stored.
  • Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing on our side to access, export or delete. If you have a question, email us.

Security

The two phones use an encrypted connection that only the paired phone can join. Use a Wi-Fi network you trust with a password. Some guest or public networks block phones from reaching each other.

Not a medical device

Napbell is a convenience monitor. It does not track breathing or health, and it does not replace safe-sleep practices or checking on your baby.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If we add features that send data over the internet, such as alerts when you are away from home, we will update this policy before they are released and explain them in the app.
